Hypnotherapy and hypnosis are much misunderstood, which is hardly surprising given the way they are often portrayed in the media and by exponents of “stage hypnosis”.
Probably the most important thing to know is that ALL hypnosis is self-hypnosis; you only go into an hypnotic state if you want to and you allow yourself to. Also, hypnosis is an entirely natural state, just like daydreaming.
When practiced by a qualified and competent hypnotherapist, your experience should feel safe, with you in control and your feelings and concerns given the respect they deserve.
